Aspect ratios & cropping pitfalls

Your camera/phone creates files in specific ratios. If the canvas size doesn’t match, you’ll be forced to crop or leave blank edges.
Use this map to choose a size that fits your file natively.

Aspect ratio map (match your file)

Aspect ratio Common pixel files Native canvas sizes
2:3 4000Γ—6000, 3024Γ—4032 (iPhone) 12Γ—18 β€’ 16Γ—24 β€’ 20Γ—30 β€’ 24Γ—36
4:5 4000Γ—5000, 2400Γ—3000 8Γ—10 β€’ 16Γ—20 β€’ 24Γ—30
3:4 3456Γ—4608, 2736Γ—3648 18Γ—24 β€’ 30Γ—40
1:1 3000Γ—3000 12Γ—12 β€’ 20Γ—20 β€’ 30Γ—30

Avoid edge loss: If key details live near the border, pick mirrored edges or add a subtle border rather than image-wrap.

Single vs. multi-panel layouts

Single canvases deliver a clean, minimalist statement. Multi-panels (diptych, triptych, 5-panel) create flow across wide walls and help preserve panoramic scenes without extreme cropping.

Panorama triptych β€” three tall 1:2 panels for wide scenes
Triptych (3 panels): keep 2–4β€³ spacing; align the shared center at ~57–60β€³.
Panorama five-panel wall β€” wide landscape split into five vertical panels
5-Panel panorama: museum feel for long sofas/boardrooms; keep a steady 2–3β€³ rhythm.
Collage option: Want story-driven sets? Build a photo collage canvas to combine multiple moments into one print.

Room-by-room recommendations

  • Living room feature wall: 24Γ—36 or 30Γ—40 (1.5β€³ wrap)
  • Above sofa: 24Γ—36 solo, or (3) Γ— 16Γ—24 triptych
  • Dining room: 18Γ—24 or 24Γ—36 landscape
  • Bedroom over headboard: 18Γ—24 or 24Γ—36; center at ~58β€³
  • Hallway / gallery: 12Γ—18 grid or 8Γ—10 series
  • Entryway: 16Γ—20 portrait orientation
  • Office: 18Γ—24 conference wall; 8Γ—10 desk canvas

DPI quick math (quality without the jargon)

Aim for: 150–300 DPI at final print size. Larger canvases are viewed farther away, so 150 DPI often looks fantastic.

Canvas size Target DPI Good for
8Γ—10 200–300 Desks, shelves
16Γ—20 150–240 Bedrooms, console walls
24Γ—36 120–180 Statement walls
30Γ—40 100–150 Large open spaces
